2006 Wrap Up - page 4
I took an early departure and skipped our Steelhead season to hook up with Treece's dad and former BC steelhead junkie, Jimmy. We were after some trophy steelhead on the Skeena River system in British Columbia. Like most steelhead fishing, this is a numbers game: lots of casts, but giant fish.

Our local steelhead action can be a lot hotter, but our fish top the scales around 15lbs and only average about 9lbs. In contrast, Skeena and Kispiox River fish often exceed 20 lbs and a 30 pounder is always a possibility. It had been a slow September for B.C. steelhead, but Jimmy and I were able to land several nice fish from 10 to 20 pounds during the first week of October.

Well that's the short story. (Treece apologizes for taking so long to upload it). For those of you we didn't mention, your legend lives on! We're looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones this upcoming 2007 season. We'd love to hear from you so drop us a line anytime.

In Memoriam:
A moment of silence for Rick Gallegos and Jack Quirk, two men who graced us with visits last summer and who both succumbed to hard fought battles against terminal cancer in November. Rick joined us with his brother Rod and cousin Paul in May. Sunny weather greeted them, and in spite of low water conditions on the river, Rick landed and released a trophy 50 lb king salmon the first day out. Saltwater fishing also produced both king salmon and halibut. The whole time the guys had the camp to themselves and got a memorable chance to be together. Jack joined us in September with his son Robert. Though weakened by his illness, Jack was still able to catch a few silvers and spend quality time with his son. A retired policeman, he entertained us with some riveting stories. Godspeed on their new adventures.
